Improve your game with new poker terminology
When entering any poker room, it is important to know your terminology, so as to better identify the plays being made. For example, when learning to play, refer to a good card as an action card. In poker terms, an action card is a card that shows up the board which greatly helps out two or more players. Poker terminology is normally used when discussing plays or when analyzing plays. Many recommended poker books use this word when re-counting specific poker moves.
Another term used sometimes at the poker table is a boxed card. A boxed card means a card from the deck which is face-up in the pile (all cards in the deck should be faced down). If you are new to the poker game and are acting as the dealer, you may be unsure of what to do with a boxed card. To look professional, simply know in your head that this is referred to as a boxed card, and place it aside.
One great way to improve your poker vocabulary is via research online or with one of the many recommended poker books available on the net. Check out "Winning Low-Limit Hold'em" by Lee Jones. It does an excellent job explaining the basics of online poker in a simple and clear manner. Another great read is "Diary Of A Mad Poker Player" by Richard Sparks. The author recounts the journey from virtual tables in online casinos, all the way to great plays in the World Series of Poker.
